5.0 vs 4.6
Or.... you could get a 94 - 95 and pay even less $$ and make it even faster than the 99+ even faster... hrmmmmm.... lotsa what-ifs lol...
I say to each their own - in all honesty if I was going to mod the hell out of a 4.6 mustang I would myelf buy a 1996 - but thats only because I would intend to modify internally as well. If someone could only afford the basic bolt-ons then a 96 - 98 is a bad bad choice - and reguardless of whether you can mod it or not its still considered the bastard of modern mustangs. But - ask me what I would prefer of his choices - it would def be a 94 - 95 stang
Anyway, its all about Mustangs though, and thats whats important

The 94-95 5.0s have issues themselves. They respond COMPLETELY differently to mods on each engine. You will have to get rid of the computer or reprogram it. You're actually better off trying and getting a Cobra then just SC or Turbo it then exhaust and intake side. The 5.0 will DEFINATELY need new heads. 94-95 5.0 heads were HORRIBLE. Fact is 5.0 has cheaper mods but there is no clear cut best in the slightest. It's up to you man.
just look over what you intend on buying very hard, and ask alot of questions, even if they seem dumb. dont wanna drop 6k in a turd. If you have access to a lift take a look underneath it. You can learn alot about a cars history just by looking there. And dont jump at the first one, look around and find what your looking for. good luck stang huntin!!!
Stangs are very reliable, especailly 5.0's. I've had mine for two years and only put an alternator in it other then routine maintance. If you take it easy on it and find one that's unmolested they will run for a very long time, well over 100k.
