What is special about an 80mm C&L MAFS housing?

What is special about an 80mm C&L MAFS housing?
I am having a bear of a time finding a cold air intake that accepts my C&L MAF housing.[X(]
As I look at the 80mm housing against the stock one, I notice the diameters are nearly the same. The stock one does have a vertical structure right smack in the middle. Is that the what gives the C&L higher flow.
The C&L has somewhat of a low profile protrusion to house the wire for the sensor.
