Save it for the track and a radar detector will be the least of your concerns.

A majority of cops will leave the gun off until they see a speeder approaching, rendering radar useless until it's too late.
+1. I don't know of any cops that do it any other way. You can literally turn it on, get a speed, lock the speed in, and shut it off (keeping the locked speed) all in under 0.5 seconds.

While were on the subject, I'm curious to hear is anyone has any experience with a radar jammer..
They don't work. It ranks right up there with the turbonator.

From what I read the passport and V1 are the best. For a $100 bucks you won't be able to get either one.
