Default Help - thinking about purchasing a used Mustang

Hi
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I'm going to be looking at a 2001 Mustang Convertible and wanted to know some things to look out for when I test drive it and look at it.
Here are a few of the specs that I know about
6cyl
42,000 miles
leather
Mach Stereo w/6disc changer

Thats about it. The dealer says he is willing to take my car (98 Eclipse Spyder) & 6,000 cash. Do you think this is a good idea if the car is in running shape and good outer condition.

Any advice is greatly appreicated.
Thank You

Well first few things I would look for is see how the car idles, Make sure all lights work, brakes feel tight no play, all gauges are working proper, No engine service light on, Then on a road test put the gas to the floor see how the speed picks up quick or sluggish, make sure youre steering feels tight, Now wobbles or shakes at highway speeds, Then if thing all work out for ya, Make a deal that appeals to you, Goodluck

ugh.. another V6 vert...jebus

Anywho... Do what he said above, it's all a good idea, just don't expect much from the power department, although 180hp ain't bad. What is the BB value of your car? I would figure a V6 vert would go for about 8K or so. I don't imagine your car is only worth 2k.

well first I's see what he is really giving for your car..if there is a CARMAX near you stop buy and get and offer it maybe more and then you can go back to the guy an offer cash which may save you $$$ do a car fax or make him show you one....have a 3rd party look at it if you feel funy about it..don't let emotion take over, don't be excited to the dealer....also look at the trader.com for cars near you..take your time

Well, for what the retail value of the car is according to Kelly Blue Book, it's about right. The retail value of the car around here is about $15k, and your car's private party value is about $8k. You could find a much better deal if you didn't buy from a dealer though. Check http://www.autotrader.com and eBay for some deals. You'd probably make out better if you sold your car on the street and just had cash in hand to buy from another private party. It's your choice, but that's what I think.

Here's a nice silver 5-speed vert V6...

A blue vert auto V6 with 10k less miles...

Just look around, and make sure you are getting the best deal. Or you could try to talk the dealer down to like $3k or $4k cash plus your car. Whatever you do, good luck, and don't be afraid to tell the dealer to go to hell, because they will try to screw you.

Hi, Thanks for all the advice. I got the car from the dealer and got a good deal. I gave 4000 cash plus my car *btw - my eclipse was in not the greatest shape-had moldings missing-top leaked really bad-speakers were blown-bald tires* so my main concern was just getting rid of that car. I tried and tried to sell it outright but no one wanted it because of the issues and that i was an automatic. I'm extremely happy with how everything turned out and finally got a mustang after many months of trying to locate one.
Thanks again
