New Gears, nos, suggestions?
I have '03 gt 5 speed and I want to put either 3.90s or 4.10s with like little 50 shot of nitrous. I wanted to figure out a few things:
1. Which gear does everyone think is better?
2. What brand of gear should I go with so I don't end up with some annoying whine?
3. Is anyone here affiliated with a shop that sells gears, how much would they be?
4. I notice on the holley website only have the nos kit thru 02 for mustangs. I called the tech guys there and they said they have not tested it on an 03, that is why they don't have the year included. I can't think of anything that would be different between the two motors. Does anyone know if that system will work on an 03?
5. And then finally any suggestions? My car in lowered with eibach springs, magnaflow stainless cat-back and some drive pullys. That is all I have done.
Thanks everyone,
Joe

RE: New Gears, nos, suggestions?
1. 4.10's at a minimum if you are performance oriented. 70mph on the interstate would put you at 2400 rpm though.
2. Ford Motorsport are the industry standard for 8.8 rears, least likely to make noise than all others, its all in the setup.
3. Gear costs usually run $150, and installation will cost $150 - $200, anything more then find someone else
4. 03 & up don't usually have a fuel diagnostic port - which most wet kits are designed for to tap into the fuel system.
5. If you want to have descent traction after the gears, your gonna need rear lower and upper control arms and drag radials, else you'll be barking 4th - may be a fun thing but when your racing you dont wanna be spinning. Imagine annihilating all of 1st, most of second, and part of 3rd. Not good for speed.
No worthwhile gains to be had on a stock GT, like 5-6 rwhp is all you would get from spending $350.00 on an intake and plenum combo. Not worth it until most all other mods are done.

Thanks,
So you are saying gears and lower control arms would be good for now. Also those cold air intake systems don't really do anything do they? I have a K&N already, I just don't know if is worth the 70 bucks I saw for one on e-bay.
1. 4.10 gears
2. lower control arms
3. ?

They don't do much, especially if you already ditched your silencer and picked up a K&N. Im happy with densecharger. Theirs another thread about it close to this one. Dont get a cheap CAI off eBay, it wont help. They get hot and really dont do much, if anything, for cold air.
