does anyone know how to find out what rear end gear ratio you have? Don't you count how many times the wheels go around when the driveshaft turns twice????????

 

what year and model do you have?

 

Is there a tag on the diff cover? Should be on there. Or you can pull the cover, the ratio should be on the ring gear. Or, you can put the car on stands, rotate the tire one time and count d-shaft revolutions.

Axle Code E Differential Type Conventional Gear Ratio 3.27

Axle Code E Differential Type Traction-Lok Gear Ratio 3.27

Axle Code M Differential Type Traction-Lok Gear Ratio 2.73

Axle Code Y Differential Type Conventional Gear Ratio 3.08

Axle Code Z Differential Type Conventional Gear Ratio 3.08

Axle Code Z Differential Type Traction-Lok Gear Ratio 3.08

Axle Code 5 Differential Type Conventional Gear Ratio 3.27

Axle Code 8 Differential Type Conventional Gear Ratio 2.73

Axle Code 34 Differential Type Conventional Gear Ratio 3.27

This will only tell you what the car came with of course. NOT what is currently installed. You'll have to resort to the roundman method (see:https://mustangforums.com/m_216023/m.../tm.htm#218568) or look for the tag as Grimace said.
