Mustang Dies Constantly
My 89 Saleen sat for two years with the Tranny out of it. After I put the tranny back in, it was hard to start, but then ran fine (seemingly) for a long time. I drove it about 450 Miles from Cabazon, CA to around Los Banos before I stopped for the night. When I got up in the morning, it would not start, but instead would just turn over. Eventually, my friend turned it over for a really long time with his foot on the gas and it sputtered to a start.
He siad it was the likely the fuel filter so we went and got one and put it on. It started back up and ran about 80 miles before it shut off again and really would not restart. He thought it seemed like vapor lock, but being a Subaru/VW mechanic was not sure.
He checked the Haynes and it seemed to point to the fuel strainer in the tank so we replaced the Fuel Pump and the strainer and that did not fix the problem. The car still wouldnt start. Sometimes it will start but it dies immediately.
Now my car is stranded in California and I live in Washington. I want my car back but I am afraid I will drive down there, and not find the fix for this problem. Can someone suggest something other than the things we replaced:
Cap, Rotor, Plugs, Fuel Pump (with strainer,) Fuel filter.
Help with this will be greatly appreciated!

Sitting that long, the injectors may be fouled. The fuel pressure regulator could be at fault as well. How did the plugs look coming out? It would be worth a shot to replace the coil, since their cheap. Along with plug wires. You're going to have to change these things anyway.
You've addressed most of the other highly likely faults.
