Not only are shift lights ricey, but they are a waste of $. If you need a shift light to tell you when to shift, you haven't driven your car enough. Hay, if you're runnin a super gas car or super steet car, that is different. If I looked over and saw a gt stang with a shiftlight, I'd want to race that guy, because I would assume he was an amature driver. -And they do look awfully ricey.
I'm going to have to agree with this. I don't know about it being ricey, but having a light to tell you when to shift. I mean, come on. That's just my opinion.

The shift light can take you from 'OK' to real good, for the $$ probably the best thing you can do. I like the MSD one over the others as it big enough to really see in the daytime. Out here in Arizona we have really bright weather even in the 'winter'........

when you have a "fast" car, a shift light is important because it allows you to know when to shift without looking down at the tach - very important when you have a car that likes to get squirrely, being able to keep your eye on the track.

and anyone that tells you they shift their car at the track based on how it "sounds" is full of sh*t, show me someone that can tell the difference between 5800 & 6000 rpm based on how the car sounds and I will show you a liar. I stare at my tack with part of my vision all the way through first, most of second, and in 3rd and 4th when it gets near time to shift.

sounds like you don't make it to the track that often or at all.. when you get serious into drag racing, every tenth counts.. i am a very good driver, but found out that i was shifting 500rpms too late... i was loosing out... i bought the shift light so i could set it up so i can get the max power out of every gear... it has nothing to do with being an amature driver... if you ever see my gt with the silver shift light, be my guest and come get some...

couldn't have siad it better MD... if you have time to watch your tach all the way down the track, you must not be going fast at all..

like you said MD, its hard to keep an eye on the tach and make sure you are staying straight down the track...

i gurantee you that 90% of the people that are running low 12's and faster have a shiftlight.

I dont think it is ricey unless you

a) have an auto(stock)
b) Just have it for looks

If you use it at the track then I see nothing wrong with it at all.
