99 Mustang

RE: 99 Mustang
Take it for a drive & see how it drives/stops/handles etc. See if the owner/dealer will let you have your own mechanic go over it. If it has been well cared for, there is no reason that a car with that mileage can`t last for a long time.

I bought my 99 with 98k on the odometer, and sold it with almost 120k. I never had any problems at all from it. Dont be afraid of a higher mileage vehicle as long as it has been well taken care of.
First look at the overall apperance of the car. Look for any problems with the interior, cracked door panels, dirt in the grooves, leaks under the car, lots of dirt cakedunderneath, etc. This can be a good sign of how well the person has taken care of it. Someone that takes good care of the interior and body most likely will take equally good care of the engine and drivetrain.
Second, see if thedealer will let you take the car for an afternoon for a test drive. An individual owner might be a little more hesitant about this, but you can still ask.See how well it performs in stop and go traffic as well as the highway. Push the car somewhat, get the rpm's up, take a few corners hard, etc. Dont do anything reckless or push the car hard enough to break something, just enough to see if the car has any problems under stress.
Third, take it to a mechanic or get someone you know to do a compression check on it. This will give a rough estimate of the condition of the internals in the engine. Have someone ride with you and listen for any nioses that sound suspicious and take those up with your mechanic.
If everything checks out, then you should have a solid car that will last for many more miles. We have a few 99-01 modelpatrol cars here with over 220k miles. Original engines that still run great, with nothing other than routine maintinance and everyone knows how hard those cars are run.
