you can but its not as fool proof as a valve body setup. computer can slip up and cause issues. for the 110 bucks for the kit. its worth it. while your at it do all the servos you can to hlep out also. then dont touch the tuner for the tranny

agree with osh, but watch out what you do, harder shifting tranny's acctually last longer, less slip, definetly the way to go, its a simple do it your self project, just pay attention to check *****, and personally i wouldn't mess with the servos, they are a definite pain in the ***

i know on the Gm trannys the stock servos are junk and should be replaced. i dunno about the ford ones but if one company are junk the other one must be along the ways

GM servo's aren't just, just nothing impressive.

Also, if your going to be doing work on your automatic, the best thing you can do is install a cooler somewhere. It'll prolong the life and keep the shifts firm forever.

its easy and it won't slip, quality stuff, just make sure you get some transgel or vaseline to make quick ease of the check *****, DO NOT DROP THEM, they are extremely hard to chase, and personal knowledge not a lot is to be gained by changing servos, all they do is cushion the apply some using a spring, its pretty easy to just change spring rate on them, but its just still a harder shifting tranny's, and as far as gm stuff, its all pretty stout, ps you should have a cooler in there already someplace, probably bottom of radiator, or else everyone would burn fluid faster than a butane torch
