Throttle Body Worth It?
Hi, I have a '96 mustang gt and I was just wondering if anyone had installed a throttle body on their car, and thought it was actually worth the money. The car only has a few performance mods to it, and I really didn't want to get too crazy with the car, since it is my daily driver, so I was wondering if anyone thought it was a good idea to buy. I also heard that if the motor is stock, you should go with a 70mm throttle body over the 75mm throttle body. Is this true? Any info/advise would be appreciated. Thanks.
A TB (throttle body) is just a part of the puzzle. If youjust add a TB and expect wheelies your dreaming. You may notice a small difference but the larger TB's are really made to go with a cold air and bigger intake setup all together. A TB is just allowing more air into the engine wich is good but if you throw a 75mm TB on a stock intake that is at lets say 65mm the end result is 65mm of air getting into the engine only still. You just would have the air getting forced ina little harder.
A 75mm T.B and Plenuem combo was wirth between 17 and 20 HP in a tech dyno trail article on a 2003 GT. The 96 should benefit as well.
Note off caution. After installing diconnect the battery for 30 min to reset ECU. I guy I used to work with had a 97 GT and put a 75mm t.b and plemun, he liked the results, but later installed a catted SLP X-pipe and the check engine light came on. Got some MILS, and light did not go away because it was for improper a/f ratio. It was brought on by the new combo of intake /exhaust work w/o resetting the ECU.
