Default replacing convertiable top

Hey I was wondering if it is possible to put in a new top on my 94 and still use my old glass
panel from my previous top? I would rather not have to buy a new top with new glass and
have to get it tinted to match my other windows [:@]

the convertible tops come in 2 pieces, you have the main top piece and then the rear window piece. but if i were replacing one then i would go ahead and spend the extra $$ and do the other. because you have to take most of the main top off to get the rear window out. and more than likely with a 13 year old top, the new fabric and the old fabric wont be the same color. there is alot of fade that happens over time.

Ya I was planing on getting both pieces because they are both falling apart. Im hoping that the inside parts like the cables and stuff are okay too.
So it is possible that I can buy the two pieces and slip my old glass in with the new material? O ya whats the difference between vinyl and canvas tops?

thanks so far

the new rear piece is going to come with the glass installed in it. the glass is heat sealed into the new top. there is pretty much no way to take the glass out and put it in the new vinyl. even if it can be done it will be much cheaper to pay the $50 or whatever and just get your rear window re-tinted. and i think the main difference in the vinyl/canvas top is just the material. i think the vinyl is more durable and resistant to stains, but the canvas looks a little better. if the car is a daily driver then i would go with the vinyl. im not sure what the cost difference is between the two though.

I put a new top on my 96 before i sold it. ryan1994mustang is right it will come in two pieces and i dont see how you are going to take the glass out of your old one and put it in the new one. Plus the new glass isnt really that expensive. I got everything i needed both pieces off of ebay and the fit and finish was great. Only cost me about $300 and a weekend and most shops charge like $1500
