Can anyone tell me if the altenator for a 65 mustang had an internal regulator inside it?

No. Internal regulators didn't come into their own until the 80's.

I thought most 65's used a generator not an alternator.

My 66 has the regulator on the driver side just in front of the bag that holds windshield washer fluid.

No, only the first few months of the '65's used generators. These are also called the 64.5 Mustangs. After October or so, Mustangs were switched to alternators.

The paper piece is glued to thedoor.

As stated the 64 1/2 had generators and usually a 5 bolt bell on the V8--The True 65 had an alternator with an electro magnetic regulator. Also a 6 bolt bell
