Default broken odometer

Is it a common thing for the odommeters to stop working because of a plastic gear?
and can I fix it without having to buy the whole thing at a salvage yard.

you can fix it, but you have to tear apart your tranny... its not that complicated, and i would do it long before buying an entire new engine

I don't understand what this has to do with my motor and transmission.

gotta give it a little time man...but if im not mistaken, both your speedometer and odometer work off of a little plastic gear that is located in your transmission. so if your speedometer is still working then it is probably something else.

i'd just leave it be. look at it this way. if your odometer stopped turning you won't have to worry about how many miles you're puttin on the car. a lot of people freak out over how many miles they got, and all that. as long as the other gauges work. i mean this could be a problem if you ever try to sell it though.

isn't there little speedometer gears behind the odometer as well? i know theres a speed sensor in your tranny that has little plastic gear as well. i know on my t-5 its on the drivers side of the tranny and a 8mm bolt holds it in see if its in correctly
