n00b questions...
I'm extremely happy with my first GT and all the custom stuff that was done to it. But, I bought it from a dealer with 1700 miles on it and it doesn't have a lot of the fancy options that a loaded GT Premium would have... It seems as though the guy who bought it had it in his mind that he was going to customize everything, so he did not get many of the available options.
So here's my questions:
1. If my car only has the basic AM/FM CD player installed. I'm sure the Shaker 500/1000 stuff wouldn't go in there, but what about swapping the the slightly upgraded AM/FM CD-6 unit? How would I go about doing that if it would be a simple swap? I remember when I worked at a Ford dealership from 1996-1999 that we used to have to use a special tool to pop them out of the dash... Is that still the case?
2. I'd also like to swap out the standard vinyl steering wheel to the Aluminum spoked one like you'd see in the GT/CS or Shelby GT. My biggest fear is the whole airbag thing. Again, is this something that can be done fairly easy?
thanks.

For the sterio your best bet is go go aftermarket for the whole thing. It'll be a lot cheaper in the long run & probably sound a lot nicer too.
I'm not sure about your steering wheel swap.

RE: n00b questions...
I'm with you on the aftermarket stereo, and I still might do that. I'm probably going to be putting a portable Sirius unit in the car anyway, and change out the speakers. That's why I thinking of the 'plug & play' head unit swap for a factory CD-6 if it was possible. I can get perfect working order head units for under $200 out of wrecked vehicles, or even find them on Ebay when people do the aftermarket route on their cars.
I've located factory steering wheels out of GT500's & GT's as well. I just don't know what's involved with changing them out.

Thanks. Now if I could just get the few missing pieces that would complete my "wish list".
* CD-6 swap & Sirius car kit
* Upgrade stock speakers
* Alunimum trimmed GT wheel
* Rear window scoops
* Billet gas door
* Billet ACC *****
Once I get the above, then I can concentrate on the turbo system. LOL

Why not get a dvd head unit that is mp3 and wma compatible, I plan to. 1000 songs on one disc? why do anything else?
The players I have been looking at usually have a usb port and SD, so the options are quite open.
If you want to install woofers into your system, I would strongly suggest passive crossovers, both high and low. Variable crossovers open quite a bit of versitility, and if you tune your specific amp/speakers correctly, the sound is absolutely phenomenal.
Some of the amps I have been looking at have the variable crossover built in, hi or lo pass, so I will be purchasing a pair of those sometime soon.

RE: n00b questions...
I was just noticing in another thread that a few have gone with the Kenwood unit with a touch screen CD/DVD, Sirius, etc.
I think that might be the way to go in the long run. But even with that, I probably won't do much other than upgrade speakers. I've done the whole sub, amp, etc wth other cars, and I don't really want to do that with this car...
