I would find a junkyard 5spd. Or rebuild your AOD if you plan on wanting better accel due to shorter shift times. If you like the feel of a stick go with the junkyard 5spd.

In my opinion I would get a T-56 if you aren't budgeted. I am working for that. I drive alot on the highway and would love that 2nd overdrive gear.

Well if your gonna go with everyday driving and keep it civilized I would go with a t5. I have never been a big fan of the aod/e. If you have ever drove an automatic with a manual valve body you would probably love it. You know it usually just comes down to how fast are shifts and there is just no better econmically way to go than an auto (not to mention consistency.) But i realize that there are some die hard manual drivers out there. I would go with a t5 if i was gonna drive a "fun" mild car. but as far as the 6 speed goes, the shorter gears are one advantage but in the t56 you have 2 od's. This would help your gas mileage and your high gear rpm. Whether or not you care about either of those. If you decide to go the t56 route, all f body camaros came with t56's I have heard that McLeod industries (http://www.mcleodind.com/) sells bellhousings etc. for this swap. Heard about it on another forum he said these people were very helpful. Or you could just send tremec a check for a viper spec t56 and that would solve your problems. but wheres the fun in hot rodding if your just dropping big $ on a tranny thats made for your car hahahaha

I just bought a 91 LX. It has a 3-speed with over drive, and I can't stand it after only a week. So, I am going manual. I want to do more street racing than drag. Thanx
So, you bought a car with an aoutomatic why? You didnt know that you weren't going to like it?

I dont know how much it will cost but it seems like it would be expensive to convert a whole tranny.

I would sell the car and get a 5-speed car.

keep the auto. they can be sleepers. racing is racing either on street or track. auto is better and more conistant. now a stick is more involved but for all out racing auto is way to go

I bought mine with a C4 when I wanted a 5spd because it is hard to find a mustang with a near perfect interior & good body for $2600.

OK, I know I haven't posted anything in a while. I have a built C-4 with a manual valve body, and cooler. It is rated at 650 / 700 hp. I love shifting. I bought the car because it has a built 306. It is only putting down 240whp. I just got a S-trim S/C. I am hoping with a few other mods I am going to be up in 370-420whp. (heads?) I am selling some ported and polished eledbrock 1.9 SBF alum heads, or a trade for AFR's. ( i know it is not straight up).

I would say get a 6 speed if you have the money for it. But if not get a 5 speed that doesnt have an over drive!!! I hate overdrive I always keep my car in 4th on the highway. The TKO 500 or 600 is one of the strongest 5 speeds I believe. Also D&D performance makes a 6 speed with the same gear ratios as a viper. Get a 6 speed..... You will enjoy it. just look at the ratios of each gear before you purchase anything
