Default Fuel pump problems?

Everything was fine untill yesterday. I was sitting in line waiting to get gas and my car just died. I started it back up and it ran for a second but died out again. After that it ran ok and I was able to make it home. This morning I left it running to warm it up and when I came out to leave I could hear a loud whine from the rear. It ran fine for a bit but as soon as I hit the interstate it felt like it was going to die on me. I made it to work ok though. I'm guessing the fuel pump is kicking the bucket at 98k miles but if anyone has any other suggestions of things to check let me know. My SES and fuel cap light have been stuck on for a while but I don't remember exactly what the code was. Something like the tank pressure or evap system had a leak. I changed out the fuel cap and the light came back on anyways. Not sure if that would have anything to do with it but I thought I'd mention it since it was fuel system related. I have changed my fuel filter and ran Seafoam not too long ago so the system should be good. If I have to change out the fuel pump I'll have no choice but to get an SVT pump.. Which totally ruins my plans to stay N/A and thats just such a bummer let me tell ya.

you could have killed it. Im assuming when you say you were waiting to get gas and it died you ran out of fuel. These fuel pumps rely on the gas running through themto keep them cool so when they are run without any gas in the tank they can burn up pretty quick.

No I actually still had about a 1/4 tank. It just died kinda like the way it does when you hit the inertia switch to relieve fuel pressure. Like I said it's making a loud whining sound. The sound will randomly quit and a second or so later the engine starts to die out but if I give it some throttle the pump starts to whine again and the idle goes back up.

sounds like it could very well be the fuel pump. a friend of mine withthe 01 bullitt had his go when i was riding with him at 89k. the one in my 93 5.0 went out at 73k, but the relay shorted it out. do you hear the bee in the jar buzzing before it fires?
