rocker noise and valve covers

rocker noise and valve covers
there have been a lot of posts about noisey roller rockers lately and it got me to thinking about what some one told me.
they said that aluminum deadens the sound of rollers better then steel. is that true?

RE: rocker noise and valve covers
generally yes but it all depends on the design of the cover, the thickness of the metal, etc. aluminum is less dense than steel so it doens't transmit sound as easily as steel can. and steel covers are usually much thinner which lets sound travel through it easier too.
hydraulic roller rockers should not be making a lot of noise though if they are properly adjusted and not worn out.

they arent making a lot of noise, its just annoying when i have my windows down. if the windows are up i cant hear anything at all. its when i role them down or drive along side a van (which reflects the sound back at me) that i can hear them.
plus at the time i did my heads, i was spending about $2K on everything that i did along with the heads so i bought some super cheap $35 covers that are steel and paper thin. now that i have money, im getting some alluminum ones

RE: rocker noise and valve covers
i just bought some aluminum ones for $81 including shipping. pollished with and awsome flame job engraved on the top. also got a breather. not the normal kind that vents to the open air, one that has a little bung on it so i can run a hose from it to the tb like from the factory does. i have to do it that way for smog.

no. im poor and lazy. i still need a fuel reg. and im afraid they will tell me i need a custom chip which i cant afford. i have about $500 right now i can spend on my car but ill need all of it and a little more to buy new axles, bearings and labor for a complete rebuild with the 3.73's and limited slip i already have.
