yes your best bet is to get a 5.0. they are much cheaper and easier to work on compared to 4.6. foxes are shorter and lighter and seems to handle better if you update the suspension. the brakes are soemthing to think about too. foxes have rear drums, they are also for lug. if you do a 5 lug conversion though you can switch all the out and its really doesnt cost that much. for the price you can pick up a fox and make it updated you will be spending on a clean 94-95gt.but if you found a 89 gtfor 2kid scoop that up in no time and start throwin money into it. parts will come alot cheaper for a fox than they will for a 94-95 and if you are looking at racing it then either way you go you will be changing all the same stuff out. i think id jump on the 89 quick

there's an old saying. Fast cars=drag strip. Fast drivers=Auto cross. I definitely reccommend setting the car up with a lot of money into the front suspension if you want to avidly compete in a lot of autocross. Easily adjustable camber and struts are a must to take down WRX's and even then, some AWD cars can still tear you apart. It all depends how fast your stang is going to be in the end, and how well you can drive it. You learn easy double clutching and cornering techniques real quick when you start street racing. All said and done, I would go with a Fox. Good choice on the 89 too. That's what mine is, not only was it 25th anniversary, but it was the first year for factory mass air on the computer, which most people already know. Part of the reason they are cheap to upgrade horsepower and mod out, in comparison that is.

Yeah, I have a few books on how to modify and what parts to buy for the 5.0 fox. I love hatches, so this is sort of a dream car. Thanks for all the advice guys.

Fox bodies perform very well on a road racing course.
Yes, especially if they are equiped with parts from Maximum Motorsports. http://www.maximummotorsports.com/
They have a ton of info for track/road racing. Also check out their videos of their own fox on the track! Their parts are more pricey than others, but you definitely get what you pay for and I have always heard highly of MM
