Default Overheating of 05 V6

Hi Everyone, I need some help, Please!!!!!!!!! My baby is an 05 V6, stock, well except for the dual exhaust and some body mods. Anyway, I had an alternator problem and my husband replaced it. Then 3 days later my car started to overheat. I never let it get into the red, would shut down, let cool then turn my heat on wide open and it would run semi hot. Had the thermostat replaced by a mechanic, now twice, still overheated, They then replaced a heat sensor, and now it's overheating again. They read my computer system and can't find anything there. Can one of you experts out there give me some good advise on what to check next?

Thanks very much,
Mustangpenny

Could be ...

low level of coolant or no coolant (check your coolant level)
plugged radiator or hoses
fluid leak (check for green fluid under engine)
fan not running
defective water pump
defective radiator cap

I'm wondering though since the alternator was recently replaced if maybe something got knocked loose or maybe even the belt was put on wrong?

Thanks MustangMike2001 for the possible scenerios to my problem. The fluid level has been stable with no leaking detected. My mechanic said he checked the water pump and it was Ok, don't know how he checked, but I guess he should know if it's OK or not. But I don't think the radiator cap has been checked. That will be next on the agenda! I just hope we can figure this out. I love my car and this is just bumming me out. Thanks again!

Just going to add that my mechanic thinks this is a problem w/the instrument panel. Will take to the dealership to check.

Have you checked to see if the fan is running? If not drive the car till it heats up to or above normal temp. Then park it with it running and check under the hood. The fan should be on. I just don't see the cluster being the source of the problem but good luck with that.

This is a good reply but sometimes it still takes a long time before the fans will come on. If the goal temperature is alot higher than thermostat temp. You will have to wait until it reaches that number. Typically 210-220 F.

When does it overheat. Idling, driving slow, driving fast?

Is your warranty expired?

When you overheat your fan should be running. If not thatmaybe the problem. Check for loose connections.
