theres a pool off coolant on the top of my block...why is that?

check all your hoses and fittings. also check your thermostat housing. clean up the coolant and fill it back up and let it run to see if you can tell where it was coming from. also make sure you have a overflow tank. my pipe busted on mine and sprayed coolant all over my engine

And never check coolant if engine is uber hot as it will spray all over you and car!

your intake manifold gasket could be leaking, but check all the other things first.

On top of the block at the front is most likely the thermostat housing or the bypass hose. The coolant temperature sensor is up there also (in the front of the intake I believe).

What year is the car?
edit: Saw your name as foxbody, if you have a fox, this is prob. not the case.
