Questions about which oil
I have 1999 v6 auto tranny model that has really low power steering fluid. I got the car used and the old owner's manual is in pieces. I saw where it says to use Mercon for the fluid but it says to use Mercon V for the tranny. It also stated not to mix the two. I haven't purchased anything yet because I'm kind of confused.
Should I buy two different fluids- one for the power steering and one for the tranny? I'm not trying to mess this car up especially since I have no idea what kind of maintenance has been done to it. For instance, I just had to replace the battery after owning this car since Feb. and not only was it too big to fit in the tray but it also was bone dry. I have done most of the tune up type of things such the oil change and replacing the spark plugs and the air filter. All were nasty the plugs looked like originals and the Fram filter was brown! Anything else that I should really be concerned about?
The other issue that I have been having is sometimes with the carin drive and stopped when I let off the brakes it sort of sits there like it is in neutral until I press on the gas. I am used to most automatic trannies pulling the car forward after you release the brake. Is this a Ford thing? This problem just started a couple of weeks ago.
