Heat and a/c problem
Hey guys, I posted this in the 6 cylinder section before seeing this section. So I apologize for the double post.
My heat and a/c will only come through the defrost area and floor. I was told it may be a broken vacuum hose, but I have no idea where that hose would be. Also, any other ideas as to why this is happening and ways to fix it would be appreciated. Thanks.

had the same issue. it was a broken vacuum line under the hood. Goto the vacuum distribution tree. Not sure if its exactly the same for you, I had a 95 Gt. Facing the engine, hood open, driverside all the way back on the side wall there was a tree with a bunch of vacuum lines going to it. One of them said A/C on it, it was fairly skinny in comparison to the others. Anyway I traced it to the passenger side and there was a splitter which was cracked. replace that or repair it(I just taped mine up real good) and it should work. Let us know how you make out.
If you need any more info, feel free to send me a PM.

i am having the same problem on my 94 gt, and have just never really looked into it because i always have the top down and dont use much heat/AC but i am def going to take a look at it when the sun comes out tomorrow. thanks for the info on that.
Hi,
I have the same problem with my A/C on my '97 mustang being stuck in defrost and I just checked and what I think is my vaccum line is broken in at least 2 places and is missing a couple of small sections. I just tried to find it in the Haynes manual in the "Cooling, heating and airconditioning systems" chapter but I didn't see anythingabout the vaccum lines.
Can I replace this line myself? How and how muchshould it cost? Thanks for any help.

mrdeep: THANK YOU! I haven't had a/c for over a week, and now, thanks to you, it is fixed! It was cracked right where it attached to the tree.

Hi,
This is getting frustrating. I couldn't find any identifying marks on what I think is my vacuum (acctuator?) line but I took it to Autozone to see if they knew what it was. The guy there said it was a plastic line and I'd have to get it from a Ford dealer sinceAutozone didn't sell plastic lines. I tookmy carto a Ford dealership yesterday and the guy from the parts dept took a look under the hood and had no idea whatthe broken linewas. He searched his database but couldn't find anything and told me that you could usually find spools of lines like that from Lowes or Home Depot (sounded like a crock to me). I checked Home Depot just to be sure and they don't have anything that small and recommended I go to a junk yard. I called2 local junk yards today but they don't have anymodels similar to my '97 mustangs. I think my biggest problem is that I dont know exactly what the line is so I don't know exactly what to ask for. It matches what mrdeep2001 described in his 6/23 post...reallyskinny line connected to what I suppose is the vacuum distribution tree under the hood just in front of the drivers side labelled "A/C" at it's connection to the distribution tree. How do I get a new line and what is the correct name for it?
