Default Power steering pump question

Hi I am a new poster and I am hoping somone here can answer a question for me. I own a 66 mustang. I have to replace the power steering pump on it. I bought a new one and brought it over to the garage where I have all my work done. The guy who works on my car called me over to look at the pumps. The one on it right now has the small hose in the back pointing down. The new one points up. I went back to the place I bought it from and they told me that is a pump for a 66 mustang with a v-8 and ac. So I called a few other places and they told me all of theres point up too. So I was wondering if someone can tell me why mine points down and where I can find another pump that has a hose pointing down.
