Default 1st stang Q's

Hey guys im brand new to the mustang world as i just bought my first stang a 1988 lx 5.0, iv noticed that the 3rd gear grinds quite a bit especially when it is cold in the morning. i was just wondering if n e one else had problems like that with the stock transmissions, i herd the mustang trannys are notorious for short life spans

Make sure there oil in it for one. And yes the stock t5s are notorious for breaking down. Ive had 2 rebuilt trannys already im saving up for that tremec TKO cant wait.

Sounds like the synchro is getting tired. As far as longevity....I rebuilt mine at 171,000 miles for the same reason as the problem you are having...only mine was in second gear. I consider that a pretty good run.
