wash it, use some aluminum polish on accesible parts. wipe down any hoses and basically "dust" it. also a CAI (polished or chrome) would add some spark and some color-coordianting spark plug wires...... theres tons you can do accesory wise, but it needs a bath!

Best overall engine cleaner on the planet that is completely safe and biodegradeable is SIMPLE GREEN! Use full strength or buy the auto shop version that is a bit more concentrated. Your engine should be warm, NOT HOT, and spray liberally over EVERYTHING in the engine compartment, even the bay area and firewall. Let sit about one minute and use the high pressure setting on your garden hose. It not only cleans everything but leaves any chromed or polished items shining. It even leaves your engine smelling the so-called "spring fresh"! Good stuff for sure.

The typical harsh, and I do mean HARSH, chemical type cleaners that are advertised as "engine cleaners" can many times do more harm than good right down to ruining your driveway pavement. That stuff is nasty and can harm sensitive electrical sensors, and worse yet, as I know first hand because of the ******** I bought my Mustang from, the chemical cleaners can eventually work their way into your air induction system and totally ruin your MAF and O2 sensors to the point where they all have to be replaced. I was so lucky as to have to do this myself. The chemical cleaners can also literally corrode some sensitive alloys as well.

Simple Green is the easy, safe way out. Super crusted-on and heavy road/oil film down in the bowels of the engine may take additional effort to remove. But, then again, the chemical cleaners can't touch it either. Steam cleaning is the ideal solution to clean everything and what a dealer typically does to overly dirty engines to prep them for the lot. Overall engines are tighter today and do not tend to get as dirty unless you use your vehicle regularly off road. This is not really an option for a Mustang unless you have a screw loose.

After a thorough cleaning, just start gradually detailing your engine. There are a million and one custom parts you can buy to dress up your engine bay. Many chromed items are a very quick fix such as the simple snap-on chrome strut tower caps. Try this link, it has 10 pages of brightwork upgrades for your Mustang. Page 2 lists the strut tower caps. http://mustangsunlimited.com/Cat_key...chrome&x=0&y=0

Good luck with your ride!
