salvage?
hey all,
well I thought this would be a good place to go to for some awnsers. TIA
I got in an accident sunday. Some lady in a 2002 impala ran a stop sign and T boned my 96.
back fender, back wheel some of the door etc all got creamed. Im ok only small stuff thank god.
So how are insurance companies about fixing cars like this and Id like to hear some opinions on if they will total it.
Thanks again,
-Joe

I would hope they total it if it was mine. If there is any frame or suspension damage I for one would not want it fixed. Some might disagree but every car I have ever driven that had been in a major wreck never seams quite right after. If you had any mods on it take them off for your next mustang. Since its a 96 and if there is alot of damage then it will be totaled. Sorry that happened man.
thanks Chris,
yea I kinda figured it was most likely going to be totaled.
Could have been worse and so far Im in good hands with allstate. lol
does the fact that its back fenders and roof are the same piece make it more likely to be a throw away?
thanks again,

Do you have a pic of the car you can post? Im not a body expert by any means so Im not real sure. If they dont total it make sure they fix it right and dont take it back until it is. If they give you a hard time with it remember your neck is still alittle sore and you have had problems sleeping since the wreck
hello,
I smacked my stang into a lady that pulled out in front of me. It wasnt all that bad, just needed a new hood, fenders, radiator and door panel fixed, headlights, basically lots of new parts. The airbags went off also and had the frame straightned. I had it for around 2 month or so of course had a loan on it. Anyway, long story short, state farm totaled it out, i collected a check for 11000 or so, paid off my loan (purchased much cheaper) put left over cash towards parts and had it put together @ the body shop. (btw, all parts i purchased were aftermarket like "cervinis" hood, bumper cover, etc). Looks much better than factory, paid off, and you would never know it unless you examine it closely while on the hoist. If you were to do this, selling it might be a problem though. I for one dont ever plan on selling mine just for the fact that it isnt costing me a dime other than gas/insurance. When driving mine, i cant feel any difference, but maybe a rear end hit you might, i dont know. If it were me, find out what the insurance company will give you for it (hopefully they total it) and then you buy it back for (mine was 2800 to buy back from them). If its a good amount, you can get it back on the road kind of cheap. Since it is a rear hit, the body shop will cut out whats bad, then replace w/ new metal. Not all that bad but just depends on you shop. Anyway, this is what i did and glad i didnt give it to the body shop that was trying to buy it from me. Good luck.....
