Default 2009 keys and fob

I wanted to know if our keys have any microchips or and other engine cut out features. I wanted to do a mod of taking the key and adding it to the remoter by doing some fabrication. But I did not want to cut up my key if theres anything inside the actual key I could screw up. Any info would be appreciated!

Well if you cutup your key and screw it up I think the key's are actually really pricey ($20 on eBay). But other than that I think I did hear once that they have something in them, but then again I have no idea.

see, this is exactly why I love this website. Saved me buying a new key, and getting bitched at for ruining a perfectly good key, from the wife. Max, I believe the chip is a engine thing. Cant start the car without the chip in the key. So if someone were to just cut a key exactly like it, they wouldnt be able to start the car. Just wasnt sure if ours had it or not, thanks guys!

Got a different question though, kind of in conjunction with this, what about those fusion key fobs that are uncut? I thought someone said they would work with our cars, but how so if our actual key has something in it??
