Default Possible alternator issue.

Hi,

I have a 2004 Ford Mustang GT Convertible.

It has about 43k miles on it.

It had a new alternator installed at about 41K, because the old one blew.

Today I went through what I thought was a small puddle in a parking lot..
It turned out to be 8-10 inches deep, soaking my entire engine to the hood, and even causing my breaks to fail for a short period of time.

Steam was billowing out of my engine, I immediately called a mechanic and he told me it should be fine.

I parked my car, left in running and ran into my apartment to get something before I had to go run some errands.

When I got into my car, my "check battery light" was on. So I went to the local Parts dealer, about a block away (who I had previously bought the alternator from.)

He tested it, and said it wasn't charging... (my alternators still under warranty) He said what happened shouldn't have fried it, and to come back tomorrow and he'll test it again.

No, When I have the car sitting, running, the battery meter, stays the same (slightly about middle.)

When I turn on the lights, and blower motor, it drops to middle, or slightly below, but stays there.

As soon as I turn everything off, it goes right back up.

I can repeat this idefinantly.

Now, I have to run out to the country in the middle of no where today. And I need to have this fixed or an idea of how to fix it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Only way to really know is to see the voltage at the battery with a meter... Did you physically see him use a voltmeter and read over 13.5V at idle? If its putting out over that at idle, then you could have another issue with the charging system.

i would check it with a Digital Multimeter and see if there really is 13.5V at idle.. if your stock gauge reads the same, its probably good, i would have them check codes again to see
