Default Mustang headed for college

I have a 2001 Mustang that will be headed off to college with one of my kids and I was wondering what you guys recommend as far as preventative service? Oil change will be done as well as brake/tire inspection. The motor has around 60k on it. I've had the car for 5 years and the only issues I've had to address were a sticky throttle body and a defective EGR sensor. Should I pay the bucks and have it tuned up professionally or should I do it myself?

Thanks,

Sam

Thankfully, modern fuel injected engines don't need "Tune Ups" just preventative maintenance. Most of which you should be able to do yourself!

60,000 is a good time to flush the coolant. Check spark plugs. Check battery terminals for rust/calcification. Fuel Filter. Air Filter. Wiper Blades. and the drive belt...Look for cracking, missing ribs, discoloration, etc. Some cracking is Ok. But when the cracking becomes uniform in one spot, it would be a good time to replace. (An example of this: My Mustang GT has four ribs, if theres cracking in random spots, thats Ok. But, if the cracking occurs in a line, or very close to a line, it would be a good time to replace it.)

Good luck!
