I have a friend that drives an '02 Focus. It has the 5sp in it. Not sure what it is, but 5sp. He said he pulled up to stop sign, tried to put the car into second gear, and it wouldnt grab a gear. The next stop sign on the same road he couldnt get the car to shift into first third or fifth. Now he has nothing. The shop tell him that he needs a different transmission in there, costing him two grand. This doesnt seem right. Is there a box that the shifter shifts into? Not directly into the transmission. Or does the shifter fit right into the case?

I"m totally NOT familiar with Foci but I garantee you the shift is not directly into the case. The transmission and the shifter are separated by about 4'.

Look for some cables or linkage.
