Question 1968 302 timing and stalling problems

so i have a 1968 ford mustang with a 302. The engine has mild comp cam, and holley 570 cfm street avenger carb. The problems started when the car wouldnt shut off correctly, so i tired adjusting the timing to 6 degrees, but when i plugged the vaccum advance line the car wouldnt stay on and would die. The car would also surge while the car was accelerated.

Now the car wont stay on for the life of me. The only way i can have on is if i stay in the car and have my foot on the gas. I have tried keeping it on by playing with the curb idle screw but no luck, and have also changed the fuel filter thinking that was the problem. I looked at the distributor cap and on each copper point it seemed to have some black residue, like the rotor was missing, but i dont know if this is normal.

Has anyone had this problem and found out the solution?

What's the setup? And first of all the timing has to be right, like around 12 at idle and 34-36 total. Then the idle speed and fuel need to be set, and it will probably need jetting.
