overheat when AC is on
friend of mine has a 97 cobra. last week his "check engine" light came on, didnt think anything of it at first. then he noticed whenever he turned AC on, his temp would almost get in the red area. today he took out his thermostat hoping that would slow the affects. he said that did nothing.
he has an APPT this thursday with a mechanic, but i was hoping u guys could lead us in the right direction b4 he spends bookoo bucs on diagnosis.
any suggestions welcome, thanks in advance.

RE: overheat when AC is on
well, the a/c compressor itself put added stress on the motor, and it also put more heat into the cooling system by way of the condensor.
obviously his cooling system is not up to par. flush the radiator and refill it with 70 percent water and 30 percent coolant and throw in a bottle of water wetter. put in a new 180 thermostat and makes sure the cooling fan turns on at the right time.

RE: overheat when AC is on
I have a '95, there was a recall on the fan relay.
Sometimes when the a/c was on or it got really hot, the car would overheat.
The fan is wired for a low speed and a high speed (12 and 14 volts(?)) setting. Your friend can check to see if he is getting power to the fan when the a/c is on. If he's not, it's probably the relay.
Before I found out about the recall, I put in a switch to manually turn on the fan.
