Default 02 sensor problem / left bank 1 on lean

ok i had this problemn right . so i went to auto zone and bought an o2 sensor for about 53.00 but was running short on cash and returned it . baiscly my gas metor isnt reading right. its saying that i have an half tank of gas . and know for an fact ...im running out of gas... this is due to the o2 sensor right? also i got some new pipes redone on the stock exhaust 1994 mustang. but honestly i feel the car moveing smoother. but it also feels as if its not sucking up all the gas. like it has to look for it . is that a common problem with the 02 sensors going bad?
any help plzzzzzz

Doesn't have anything to do with the O2 sensor. What the O2 sensor does is measure the air/fuel ratio of the exhaust and tells the computer so that the computer can adjust the injector pulse width to make it run leaner or richer based on how it's programmed for optimum performance and efficiency. Your problem is with the fuel level sending unit in the fuel tank. Your car has what is called a module meaning that the fuel level sending unit and the fuel pump come as a one piece assembly. Don't know what you are meaning about the new pipes and moving smoother thing. If the car is acting like it isn't getting enough fuel and your gauge is reading wrong, you probably need to replace the fuel pump assembly.

You're looking at around $300 for the pump assembly plus 1.5 hours labor for the install.
