I believe the story behind the whole comotion was that back in the mid-80s, Ford was considering making the Mustang a Front Wheel Drive car. Mustang owners and enthusiasts were outraged at this decision that they flooded the Ford headquarters in Deerborn, MI with nasty and angry letters. Ford changed its mind and with this came the Ford Probe. I used to own a '94 Probe and it ran pretty good for a long time.
