Default Why the mustang?

Hey everyone, I've been studying up on the car I'm going to get. Up until now, I've been looking at camaros because of the pure sports car you find. However most of the camaros I was looking at had high miles and looked as if they had been driven more. I've been looking at the mustang, and they have less miles and are less expensive.
So basicly for all you mustang owners, I was wondering what the advantages/disadvantages are to owning a stang rather then some other sports car (mainly the camaro). Does the smaller 5.0 or even 4.6 liter engine compare with the 5.7 found in the camaro? Thanks for all your help. Btw, I'm looking at late 80's to mid 90's stangs.

depends on the year of the camaro and the year of the mutang, we are talking about. The LS1 Camaros will walk all over a stock 5.0 or 4.6

i have had camaros and mustangs, it seems like every camaro i had gave me alot of trouble.but that is just my input. these are some the camaros i have owned. 1971, 75, 77, 80, 82, 94, 97 all of these were z28 cars.

i am currently looking for my first mustang so i dont know much about them but i can agree with ONE SHOT. i owned 2 95 z28's and i found myself constantly fixing them. as soon as i fixed one thing something else went and the first one only had 50,000 miles on it. i ended up selling them both for dirt cheap because i didnt want to sink another cent into them. another thing i noticed is that performance parts are much cheaper for mustangs and mustangs are easier to work on.

TAKE MY ADVISE AND GET A MUSTANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

If your looking at late 80's to mid 90's than for performance and easy to work on, get the Stang. A 5.0 is a very simple and strong motor. 96 is the first year for the 4.6, and if you want a 4.6 just pay and get a 99+.

Main reason I got my Mustang is, it had to be new (no 03 Camaros), and I think the look of a Mustang is nicer as well. Not to mention a Camaro/Firebird is uncomfortable as ****.

I also agree with the above. Camaros have had performance advatages over mustangs for the last decade or so, but the sticker price on camaros have also been a few thousand higher. Also, the camaro pushrod engines have the reputation of running for 75,000 miles and then all the valvetrain goes to hell. I found when I was looking for a car a little over a year ago that the 02 maros are freakin' expensive. I got my stang for for much cheaper than any camaro (v8 vs. v8) I could find. The ls1 camaro are fast as hell, but more $$ to buy. with roughly similar money you can get a stang and s/c her. It seemed to me that people who own a late model camaro do not want to let it go for cheap. Also, girls like stangs more than camaros. it's a well known fact!

my dad and his buddies like corvettes, and it's a consensus amongst them that you might commonly need valve work around 75-100k miles. My dad has had corvettes, one needed work, the other hasn't yet at 70,000 miles. they were both c4's though. I think the mechanic said he's seen a lot of pushrod motors have similar valve issues. I wish i could tell you more (like what was the specific malfunction), I'll axe him about it sometime and get back. I was under the impression that this was common, but if you chebby guys don't know about it, maybe the mechanic was exagerating to get more $$ out of my dad.
