Water Pump Replacement
Hi. New here. Got a water pump question related to my 08 4.0 Vert.
I'm a backyard mechanic... comfortable with a wrench. Rebuilt front end of my 86 Beemer... although it was easy because I did it one side at a time (peeked!). I may need to change my water pump on the Stang.
I've the schematic and instructions... 4 bolt pulley... 12 bolt water pump... remove and replace. Seems pretty straightforward... although I understand I've to remove the fan... possibly the shroud... and I'd like to know if this is something I should tackle.
Repair shop wants $350... and that includes the $175 pump from the dealer. I can get the part, new, from CarQuest (local auto parts store) for $80. I know I can drain the radiator... and then refill upon completion (bleeding and such).
How long should I plan on this?
Any tips or tricks?
Any special tools I might need?
Is this a repair I do from above the car... or do I need to get on the crawler?
Is it a one person repair?
Thank you, in advance, for your help.

What seems odd to me is you claim to have rebuilt a front end on a BMW, claim to be comfortable with a wrench, and a back yard mechanic, yet your concerned about changing a water pump....... I could understand with your supposed skill level having concern rebuilding a transmission but a simple water pump?????? Please tell me this is a joke.
Listen Pal,
I'm just looking for some reassurance. You want to ride someone's A** go do it on Craigslist Rants and Raves.
Yes... I did rebuild the front end of the 86 Beemer. I managed that by posting questions on the Roadfly forum where the members were happy to provide useful advice. Therein lies my confidence with a tool (as evidenced by my response to you).
The primary reason I asked about the water pump is because it is my wife's daily driver... and I don't want to get into something that might leave the car stranded in the driveway with me having to call AAA for a tow. Furthermore... I'm new to the Mustang... and 48... and not a pimply faced wisea** with an axe to grind with someone who isn't as confident tackling a water pump repair.
So... if you have some constructive advice for this "old man"... STFU.
Have a great day.

30min, 1 hour following a book line by line
Any tips or tricks?
Dont break a bolt, use common sence
Any special tools I might need?
Nope
Is this a repair I do from above the car... or do I need to get on the crawler?
Pull lower radiator hose/drain radiator underneath, rest above\
Is it a one person repair?
yes, unless you con a buddy to do it for beer, or have no arms

Thank you. Sorry for the slick remarks... but I knew there were pros like you who had performed this procedure, successfully, and would be willing to impart their wisdom upon those less gifted in automotive technical efforts.
Seriously... have a great evening.

Im also serious about the confidence thing, have some in yourself. Im sure you've replaced water pumps before on different cars, this one really isnt much different. You dont need to run to a forum for every little thing to feel like you can do it.
I do accept your apology, if you have any issues feel free to ask. If you look around a bit though, you'll see what I mean about what I said about idiots earlier. Not to make an insult or comparison to you.
