Default Not a mustang...still a ford, gas saving help

Ok I have a big trip comin up and i am going to take a 2009 ford fusion. With gas prices the way they are I want to get as much MPG as possible. I was thinking of dropping in a k&n airfilter. That being said is it worth it to get a k&n air filter, do they actually help? Also a bit on the crazy side I was thinking possibly a performace k&n airfilter for the fusion(yes they make them) but only for the sake of gas milage, anyone think that will work better then the drop in? and besides checking fluids and tire pressure any gas saving tips welcome. Thanks in advance

Trip is 3,000 miles total. So yeah every bit helps

I would think it would be worth it over the life of the car but 50 bucks is steap for an airfilter. Thanks Doug for the link
