Default What should i start with?

So here's the deal.
My brother and i are going to be throwing down together on a stang to build for the tracks. My issue is that i am torn on which one to go for. My original choice was the 2004 Cobra but after looking around on random forums i am not sure anymore.

We will be using it for road track most likely, although we will definitely be dragging it here and there. We want something we can fix up and has a TON of options for parts, engines, body sculpting...etc.

I'm open to all suggestions.

Thanks in advance guys.
cheers,
Mike

I would look for a pushrod 5.0L then. They are abundant with a huge aftermarket, plus you have 2 body styles to choose from. More if you wanna do a swap.

Fox bodies are pretty nice for both applications. Cheaper to build too.

Just keep in mind that if you build it for road/track use, you won't necessarily see the best times out of a quarter mile, alot of drag cars are actually very purpose built, and can't do much else but go fast in a quarter mile.

well I'm not too worried about drag times
we'd just be doing that more or less for fun
BUTT
the road track racing would be serious...so everything will be tuned for that.

Agreed,
If you start with a nice rust-free Fox body/5.0 you will be able to stretch your mod money a lot. You can build a lot of power into a 5.0 for a reasonable dollar, plus there are tons of suspension upgrades available.

Just make sure that you start with the "big picture" of what you want to end up with, then make your upgrades appropriately. Too many people just start throwing money at the project and end up with incompatible components that do not work well together.
