I just bought the FIPK cold air intake, it said there was no tune required. I was wondering if I would have any problems driving from Virginia (sea level) back to Colorado (6200ft), or if I should wait to get to Colorado to install it.
The ECU should adjust for slight changes in fuel trim due to the elevation change. I say you're fine to install before the drive. I can't comment on the need for a tune to see any significant performance benefits though..
If it doesn't need a tune...should be fine. I'm sure car manufacturers keep elevation changes like that in mind when they make their vehicles. Won't matter where in the world you put it on.
I got it on in Virginia, first run was amazing. Could feel the extra power and the swoosh sound of it sucking in air. Had no problem driving back to Colorado and its stilling running awesome!!!
