Has anyone ever used fabric paint on carpet?
I was wondering if anyone has ever tried recoloring carpet with fabric spray paint for a cheap alternative to new carpet? Ive got some old, stained gray carpet, thinking about turning it black but not sure if out will come out nicely. I don't want to just try it and hope for the best.

Yes, I did exactly that. I dyed the grey carpet in my 07 Mustang with rustoleum fabric dye. I also did this in high school with my old 97 Camaro using the Duplicolor fabric dye. Bottom line -- neither worked. They looked good for a few weeks then the dye wears off in high traffic areas and the grey starts to show through. With the Mustang I said screw it and just bought an aftermarket black carpet and I'm much happier.

Used to work in the reconditioning shop at a car dealership. Dyes, as mentioned. Looked great when applied (they cover up stains, etc) but wear off quickly. Most carpets are made from a plastic/nylon fiber. Dyes will not penetrate properly.

you can find carpet kits for relatively cheap ($150) and they are very easy to put in. they come pre molded and you basically just drop them in. thats what i did with my 94 and it took me about 2 hours start to finish.
