A shift kit will make your shifts more firm. Instead of just sliding inot gear it will shift alot faster. It makes a nice difference. If you do that, think about doing a stall convertor along with it.

No way, I just put a b&m shift kit in my cougar. I haven't got to drive it yet i'm still do a few things to the motor. So does it shift hard all the time or just when you get on it?
When you go buy a kit there are 3 different kinds. Stage 1: Cleans up that slop the car manufactures call a shift, no bang. Stage 2: Nice firm shifts that are suitable for a daily driven car that you can still drive around in with the folks. This has a bang when you get the RPM's goin. Stage 3: Bang BANG Bang!!Vertually no slippage between shifts, always shifts hard and fast. This is often avalable with a manual valve body that only shifts when you tell it to(D don't work no more). Just thought there was some confusion on what exactly this does with the noobies.
No, read again. The stage 3 kit is available with a manual valve body. With a manual valve body drive will not work like normal. All it will be is 3, or 4, depending on transmission, and a stage 3 shifts harsh all the time.
