Default 2000 Mustang guages

A bit of an intermittent mess. The tack and speedometer usually work the first few miles but then they both shut down or shut down one at a time.

Gas guage also does the same thing...

Other guages seem to be fine...

thanks

Check the back of your cluster to see if you have any burn marks for those instruments. check the wire harness that plugs into the cluster .

Thanks, they seem to work for about the first five or six miles and then they stop.

Seems something must be losing ground or a strange breaker somewhere.

Default replacement cluster

From the dealership a new instrument cluster is $525 does that usually fix it ??

for some reason they want the old one / so they must be rebuilding them somehow....

Check out your local junk yards and on this forum for a cluster first. Should be able to get a regular used cluster for a lot less than that.

I tried a used guage cluster but that would not allow the car to start due to a flashing security/ theft issue.

Seems to be a "loss of ground" problem. Is there a ground that needs to be cleaned behind the radio ?

As before guages work for a while and then stop completely after 5 to 10 miles.

Thanks to all....

2000 guage cluster

Installed a new battery as it was about due, but no changes in the intermittent guage working / not working problem.

Any parts and pieces that can be changed from one instrument cluster to the other that might fix this ??? Speedometer works more often than the tach, but they all seem to stop after about 15 miles....
