Default Motor Question

New to the forum. My son and I just bought a 1968 Mustang Coupe with a stock 289 V8 in it with an automatic transmission. He wants to go into mechanical engineering and I wouldn't be a good parent if I didn't get him turning wrenches now. Our original plan was to buy a used 302 and rebuild it and then find a rolling chassis to put it in. Found a used 302 that was pulled from a '89 Bronco (motor was '87) with fuel injection and included everything for $100. However, this '68 popped up on craigslist for $800 and we couldn't pass it up (simply to save it from the rust monster). The 302 crankshaft looks like it was paired up to a standard transmission.

Here's my question, will I have to change out the crankshaft on the 302 in order to attach the stock standard transmission to it? It would be nice to be able to use the bigger motor (with EFI), and we have no intention of restoring the car to original condition (more like a resto mod). Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks
