Head Gasket???
#21
Yea what a mess. Ans how damn heavy are these freekin heads. Just dropped them off at the machine shop to shave them down a hair and put them under pressure to check for cracks. All Pistons had carbon on them, powdery like, and cyl 7 was a little greasy and not as smooth. Hope that was my problem. Anyway I need to clean out all the water residue from the block now. Any suggestions??

That's good about the piston tops, and as long as oil is still clean, not milky, your motor should still be fine. Sounds like #7 was running a little hotter than the others, blocked coolant passage. The rest of your coolant passeges looked good so it must have been some localized problems there. Maybe a bad gasket, seal, etc.
How did the head gaskets look, any burnt areas, tears, any sign off blow-by ?

Not bad, it's now 9pm, this time yesterday I started taking things apart and now I'm ready for the rebuild. First I have to clean up all the silicone beading and old gasket stuck all over the place. Any recommendations on what to use to get them off? I have 80grit sandpaper that ill use to smooth it out after its almost clean but what would you recommend?
And also gotta clean the coolant out of the block and make sure there is no gook left behind. Any recommendations here??
Also what would you put in the cylinders to avoid getting them dirty? I was thinking a balloon slightly inflated and to rub it a bit with oil to get it sticky..
Then I'm pretty much all ready to rebuild. I had the heads Vaccum tested and pressure tested and they are both fine! Valves are all good!

Just a razor blade is all I use, and don't use any kind of sandpaper. It'll leave that coarse grit behind that may get cycled through your motor causing more damage. A sharp razor blade, some Scotch Brite pads if needed, and patience.
As for the coolant, dry up as much as you can with paper towels. If you think a lot drained down in the oil, drain that too. You'll be giving it another oil and filter change anyway shortly after it's up and running again.
The cylinders are a little tricky. No matter what you do, you end up with some junk in them. You could use a wide Scotch Tape across the deck, or just stuff with clean rags and carefully clean out when done. Although your ballon trick does sound too.
Glad to hear your heads checked out good. You must have a great service place over there to have them back already. Over here, I wouldn't see my heads for a week. Good luck on the install, remember, this is fun lol.

All done, started her up and sounds pretty good. Let her warm up for 30 min and didn't bubble or overflow. No ticking noise either! But it died on me and I'm not sure why but I have a feeling my tank was running low! I checked fuel lines to carb and were dry. I think my next upgrade would be a fuel guage. Lol
