Default Anyone else notice tires wearing out quickly on GT?

On my 98 v6 I pretty much had the same set of tires forever. On my 06 GT my car starts to skid and lose traction every 30 thousand miles or so. I drive pretty conservatively. Im guessing its cos its rear wheel drive and theres more weight in the back. Once again I notice when I am up stopped at a light up hill and i go they spin for a second or 2 before gripping, and today in the wet I almost spun out in a turn.

Is it okay if I just buy 2 new tires in the rear? I wasted a lot of money on car stuff in my 20s and now I just want to save as much as I can.

The engine and trans weigh more than the rear end, no, the rear is not heavier.
You can have a bad LCA, or other suspension component that has the axle on
a bad angle, and wearing the tires faster.

Unless you're using some crazy camber/toe settings it's going to be a driver mod. Learn to drive smoother-slow in fast out. Brake earlier and in a straight line. Diving into the corners late will wear them out faster for sure. I have to say I've never had a problem with tire wear in offline. Watch your tire wear indicator and try to keep the tires out of the red. Race hards/mediums wear better too. Good luck.

There are no TOE and CAMBER adjustment on a solid rear axle! If you got
bad tire wear, you got a bad suspension component. He was not real CLEAR
on what tires go bad, but he referenced rear being heavier... If it's FRONT
tires, then same thing though, bad LCAs, struts, tie-rod ends... Out of
alignment...

Get yourself some camber/caster plates and set your camber correctly.

As MustangDude pointed out there is no camber adjustment on these. I was always getting about 15-20K on the front tires from excessive negative camber (even when I replaced all the front suspension for wear) while the rears lasted double that (I have staggered tires so I don't rotate). Anyways, got caster/camber plates and set the camber to the middle of the OEM spec. BTW, you can get wear from too much negative camber and still be in OEM spec so don't let that detail trip you up.

I just realized you're talking about the REAR tires, not the front. My comments about camber/caster plates were for Front only. Rear, MustangDude is correct, rear solid axle do not have adjustments and to my knowledge there is not easy fix for that.

Over the years I have noticed that my rear tires always seem to wear out faster no matter which Mustang it is.
