351w Head Choice: GT40P vs E7 vs D0
Hey all, let me give you a quick rundown on some background info before the actual question.
I got a 351w (+.040 over with some dish pistons) Engine that I'm swapping into a 2000 3.8l (Yes, yes I know aboutall most of the nightmares and tricks to fit it). My question here is about the 351w engine itself.
For the first stage of the build, I'm going to go with Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake, Edelbrock 750 4bbl, haven't decided on which brand cam but thinking something around a .52 max lift and around 235/245 duration @.05 110LSA. I'm going to leave the bottom end bone stock. This should have an operating range from 1500-6500rpm.
The 351w came with some pos E5AE heads, so I knew I was going to replace those, but with what? I've read up on the E7's, the GT40p's, and the D0's (C/G) but haven't been able to find any convincing evidence/support on which I should choose.
Here's what I know:
E7 - 1.78/1.45/66cc
D0(C/G) - 1.84/1.54/60.4cc
GT40P - 1.84/1.46/59cc
I've read that GT40p heads choke the windsor engines over 5k (also for lift greater than .48 you need to buy valve spring kit (~160 new).
Apparantly, you can mill down the E7 heads .040 to reduce the combustion chamber to ~58cc.
The D0 on the other hand, has a larger exhaust valve, and around the same combustion chamber as the GT40p.
I haven't been able to find reliable flow characteristics, but I did find this useful site that gave some insight: https://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/...ads/index1.php
I plan on Home porting whatever heads I use.
I wanted to ask your opinions on which head you would choose, and why.
This is a budget build with finding cheap used parts online and manual labor, so I'm not going to drop $1200 on some Aluminum heads at the moment when I can drop ~ $300 with these heads and be fine with the mild setup.
Other than that, I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks!

The p heads will need to be drilled out to take the windsors head bolts (and the e7's if they are off of a mustang, I'm not sure if they made 351 specific e7's). I used to have p heads on my 302 and they flow a lot better than e7's but you'll want to upgrade the the springs for sure and you might need different headers to make them work, I know I did on my 302 anyway. Don't know much about the D0 heads though
