Angry Sun Visor Replacement 2002 Convertible

This past week I started a project to replace the worn sun visors on my 2002 Mustang GT convertible. I looked online for some replacements and saw a few offerings in the $70 to $90 range. I also watched a few videos that showed how easy you could pop the old visor off the rod and slide the new one in it's place. Most of the replacement visors I found were without the mirror or the light, so I decided to check out a local junkyard. I found a pair that looked pretty good on a 1999 coupe. I got the pair for $30.

When I got home I noticed the rod mounting was different on my 2002. No worries I'll just slide the old visor off the rod and slide the new one in it's place, just like the video. BIG MISTAKE.. Sliding the rod out of the visor was fairly easy with a little effort. Sliding it back on is next to impossible.

I decided to disassemble the old visor to see what the issue was and found this metal retainer clip that spring loads the rod in place and provides detents to keep the visor from flopping around (See Pic). Trying to slide the rod back into the retainer is impossible without some special tool, even in the disassembled state show in the picture.

I'm at a loss as to what I should do. Any of you smart Mustang aficionados have any ideas?

Does it slide into place or is it suppose to snap in from the top? It looks like the metal is bent to allow it to snap in place.

Mine are starting to look pretty tattered also but I am planning on taking them to a local upholstery shop and seeing what magic they can perform.

Whenever the Spirit moves me that is.

The rod snaps into the bracket with some effort. I put the bracket in a vise and use pliers to get it back in place.

I ended up recovering both myself. I got the headliner material from a fabric store (had to buy a yard x 52", enough to do 20 visors) and some 3M 77 spray adhesive. Easy peasy. They both look great.

I started looking around for replacements and CJ Pony has sun visors for our cars. They're 125.00 a piece so cheap they ain't.
