Goes into drive, doesn’t move just revs
I am new to the whole mustang scene and I’m already having problems with mine! It’s a 2007 Automatic. With 120,xxx miles. My problem is the shifter will move into Drive but when I press the gas it doesn’t move it just revs up! Can someone shed some light on this problem? Might’ve been covered somewhere before. Easy fix?! Expensive fix?! Thank you
Could be the shifter to transmission cable. Could be a broken input shaft. Could be a bad torque converter or transmission pump.
Shifter is an easy check. With a cold drivetrain, jack up the drivers side front of the car and put jack stands under it. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to "ON" but don't start it. Have someone move the shifter throughout it's range of motion. From under the car, just above the tranny pan on the drivers side is the shifter lever. It should move as the shifter is moved. If it doesn't, then the cable or a cable bushing is broken. That's all external and doesn't require a removal of the transmission.
The rest of the problems are internal and cannot be diagnosed so easily .

I had a similar issue but in a different year, I changed the transmission fluid and it worked. It was overdue for a transmission flush, it was in a 2014 Mustang but I used this:

you can go with your own synthetic brand of tranny oil, up to you, that oil is great and you can take it to the mechanic and just pay labor. You didn't specify which engine your 2007 is, with those miles definitely change the oil and tranny fluid, there is a 4.0, 4.6, and 5.4 liter size engine, if you want to look up the quarts and take your own oil check here for the engine size to look up:

this way you can take your own oil and have the mechanic service it and check out the problem and take care of two issues possible at once, and save on the upcharge on some regular brand the mechanic sells. Hope this helps.
