Default question about HVAC related issue

ALright guys, I've search high and low and haven't found an answer yet. My girlfriend owns a red 1994 ford mustang with the v6. She called me today and told me that while her heater works, it doesn't blow anything unless she has the fan speed dial turned all the way up. Otherwise the heat dribbles out of the vents she claims. I haven't taken a look at it yet, won't until tomorrow but was looking for some help. I'm assuming there are cables connecting the dials to he controls deep in the dash that regulate heat and fan speed, etc. Is it possible these cables are worn out and just don't hold enough tension to pull on the appropriate pieces or what? What should I be looking for, I'm used to working on my 2001 Ranger, not her stang. Any advice or schematics/diagrams would be appreciated because its getting colder up here in RI and its supposed to snow any day now.

Thanks in advance.

If it's the fan speed it's probably a bad switch.

Hi Ranger!
Sounds more like an electrical problem. Usually there is a relay or control that puts 12v direct to the blower for high speed, but all other speeds are controlled by the relay. It's common to have the realy 'pack it's bags' like the way you described. It's probably under the hood close to the passenger side near the blower motor.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice. I'll take a look at the relay you described when I head over there tonight. She called today in between classes and said its not producing anything heat wise now, so I'll check for all the things mentioned. Hopefully its not something too bad like a heater core also, as I don't feel like replacing one of those this weekend.

Ranger,
Not sure how you made out with this, but looking at the post again, it could be that the car is low on coolant.
You might want to have a look at this post for some help:

Hope that helps! Good luck!
